It’s also, for most people, simply cheaper in the short and medium term. Even a premium chalet rental for two or three weeks a year costs a fraction of the capital tied up in owning a comparable property outright.
The Case for Buying
Ownership makes sense once you know Courchevel is where you’ll keep coming back, year after year, for the long term. You gain a fixed base you can furnish and personalise exactly as you like, the option to rent it out through an agency when you’re not using it, and exposure to a property market that has historically held its value well in the top French Alpine resorts.
The trade-off is capital, ongoing costs, and less flexibility. You’re committing to one village, one property, and the responsibilities of upkeep, whether or not you use it every season.

How many weeks a year will you realistically use it?
If it’s less than three or four, the numbers usually favour renting.
Do you want the same chalet every year, or variety?
Owners commit to one property; renters can move between villages and chalet sizes as their group and needs change.
Are you comfortable managing a property remotely?
Ownership means arranging maintenance, staff and management from a distance, usually through a local agency.
